Throughout 2013, a number of Yahoo! Xtra account holders have experienced temporary but frustrating challenges when accessing or their email, and others have had spam emails sent from their account.
Telecom advised users affected to change their password, but further issues arose when this turned out to be near-impossible and email disruptions extended beyond 3 days. Further misery was added when the backup option of Yahoo webmail access was prevented.
The issue had been blamed by partner Yahoo! on a "hardware problem" that was "bigger than originally thought".
It's been a hard year for Xtra email customers - in November, many found themselves blocked from their own accounts after a wave of spam attacks. Before that, a significant spam attack in February compromised around 87,000 accounts.
